The authorities want to block publication of Carla Del Ponte’s book as it may threaten the Action Team’s work, says Blic. According to one of the daily's source, after receiving a copy of the memoirs that the former Hague chief prosecutor has kept secret, the Belgrade authorities fear that publication of the book, entitled “Hunt: Me and War Criminals”, that is being printed in Italy could jeopardize cooperation with the Hague Tribunal, and the work of the Action Team and the secret services. Daily: Del Ponte book ruffling feathers The daily understands that, in her book expected to be published on March 20, Del Ponte uncovers what Serbian officials and service chiefs told her during formal and informal meetings, as well as operations they undertook to arrest the Hague fugitives, above all Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic. Blic writes that, in the book, the former prosecutor details the two men’s movements, uncovers their accomplices, and describes the arrest of former Republic of Srpska (RS) Army Security Chief Zdravko Tolimir, claiming that he was arrested in Belgrade, before being transferred to the RS. According to one source close to the Tribunal, the Action Team for arresting fugitives sent letters to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Hague president and chief prosecutor, asking them to postpone publication of the book “until a more suitable time.” The source says that the letter warns that publication could hamper and wreck the work and methods of the Serbian security services in their endeavors to find the fugitives, and would jeopardize further efforts to bring them to justice. President of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal Rasim Ljajic confirmed to Blic that a letter had been sent to the secretary general, but had no further comment on the matter. Hague spokeswoman Nerma Jelacic told Blic that the Tribunal would not comment on anyone’s books. Carla Del Ponte (FoNet, archive)
