A group of Albanians opened fire on Serbs in northern Kosovska Mitrovica last night. Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesman Besim Hoti said that KFOR had managed to separate the two groups and prevent an escalation of the violence. The gunmen opened fire with pistols and automatic weaponry. There were no injuries, and five shell casings were discovered, Hoti confirmed to B92. The town’s Northern Police Chief Milija Milosevic said that he and two of his colleagues had come under fire, and that the assailants had fled when the KPS patrol returned fire. Milosevic said that an UNMIK police patrol had also been targeted when they came under attack from a larger group of Albanians. After the incident, KFOR members took over the so-called yellow demarcation line between the Albanian and Serb communities. There were no other incidents overnight, while Serbs from Brdo have announced that they will ask KFOR for their troops to remain on the demarcation line.
