Hahn: First chapters to be opened soon

Johannes Hahn, who will be visiting Belgrade on May 7, says the first negotiation chapters in Serbia's EU accession process "will be opened soon."

Hahn: First chapters to be opened soon

"The joint position of all 28 member states is that Chapters 23, 24 and 35 - which relate to the judiciary, fundamental rights and the normalization of relations with Pristina, respectively - need to be opened first," Hahn noted.

"For a consensus to be reached among member states in favor of opening the chapters, it is important that Serbia achieve clear and irreversible progress in these areas," he said.

"We have made much progress in the past months - I want the negotiation chapters to be opened as soon as possible and I am coming to help to achieve that goal," Hahn said.
