Driver dies as trucks crush his car after failed overtake

A 29-year-old man from Pirot in southern Serbia died on Monday in a traffic accident that happened in a tunnel on the Pirot-Nis road.

Driver dies as trucks crush his car after failed overtake

The driver, D.I., attempted to overtake a truck, but failed and collided with another truck coming from the opposite direction.

The collision left the BMW crushed between the two trucks.

The police closed the road and continue to investigate the accident on Monday afternoon.

An eyewitness - a Bulgarian from Plovdiv - said the scene was "horrendous."

"It's regrettable that the young man died. In my 20 years driving a truck I've never seen such a horrendous crash. The colleagues from the trucks could do nothing, because it all happened in a tunnel," Plamen Metodiev told reporters.
