Protests held in wake of murder of Russian politician

Although protests were held in New York thousands of kilometers from the Kremlin, some of the protesters have expressed concern because they joined a protest against the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Reuters noted.

"I know a lot of people who are discouraged to come because they fear that their image or name will appear on the news and that will make problems for their relatives in Russia," the agency quoted Dmitry Smelanski, one of the protesters, who came in New York from Boston.

Tens of thousands of people took part earlier in a march in Moscow earlier in the day organized to commemorate Nemtsov.

Participants in the Moscow march carried banners reading, "He fought for a free Russia" and "He fought for the future of Russia," "I am not afraid," as well as a key message of the march, "Heroes do not die and bullets are directed at each of us."

Nemtsov was killed late Friday night near the Kremlin, two days before a big rally that planned by the opposition.

The murder was recorded by a camera that monitors weather conditions in downtown Moscow.

Two key witnesses in described the shooter in their testimonies. The police are searching for a man between 170 and 175 centimeters tall, with short hair, wearing blue jeans and a brown sweater, reported Sputnik website.

Russia's Investigative Committee plans to conduct additional investigative actions regarding the Ana Duritskaya who was which Nemtsov at the time of the murder.

According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Nemtsov was killed after he was shot several times from a passing car.

The Investigating Committee is now considering several possible scenarios, some of which related to the events in Ukraine, the attack on the Charlie Hebdo paper in Paris, and Nemtsov's business activities.
