"Great progress in harmonizing energy sector with EU"

The progress in the energy sector refers primarily to the adoption of the new energy law and plan for reorganization of Srbijagas which has been brought in line with the requirements of the Energy Community, Antic told reporters after meeting with Director for Western Balkans at the Directorate-General for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Jean-Eric Paquet, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport and official of the EU Delegation to Serbia Freek Janmaat.

Antic said that the EU will hold a meeting with officials of the Western Balkan countries in Vienna in late August to discuss inter-connecting gas pipelines in the region, and that a technical level meeting in Sofia in early March will address the gas pipeline project Dimitrovgrad-Sofia, and make public the capacity of the gas pipeline.

“In the meantime, Serbia will continue to finance a spatial plan for that project,” Antic said.

“We talked with colleagues from the EC and EU about the Trans-Balkan pipeline project, and nominated a gas connection with Macedonia from Vranje to Kumanovo for a project of regional importance which should ensure higher energy security in this part of Europe," Antic said.

Asked whether the meeting explored the possibility of connecting Serbia to the gas pipeline Turkish Stream, Antic said he informed the EC officials that Serbia will give equal consideration to all new gas pipeline projects that are aimed at increasing the diversification of sources and gas supply routes in this part of Europe.

We are planning to do all this in coordination with the EC, and the projects have to be in line with the EU Third Energy Package, Antic said.
