Hungarian PM: Gas supplies must go via Serbia

As he explained, the goal of such efforts is to ensure gas supplies to Hungary beyond 2019 to 2020, considering that after abandoning South Stream, Russia intends to, by the end of this decade, stop supplying gas to Europe via Ukraine - which means that alternative routes will be needed.

Orban added that Hungary was "in fact being blocked" by Romania and Croatia, as these countries have not completed the required gas interconnectors.

"Russia has decided to focus its gas via Turkey," he said and noted that Hungary "has no other choice."

The prime minister also spoke about the Hungarian-Turkish economic cooperation, including the opening of a branch Hungary's Eximbank in Istanbul, and record Hungarian exports to Turkey, which last year reached EUR 2 billion.

Davutoglu said that relations between the two countries are developing rapidly, and that Ankara is ready to provide all the necessary support when it comes to energy supplies to Central Europe and Hungary.
