Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic will not attend the inauguration of Croatia's new president, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, a daily is reporting.

"President to miss Croat counterpart's inauguration"

Considering the recent statements made by Grabar-Kitarovic

, "who declared (the province) of Vojvodina to be a state and Serbs in Croatia to be Croats, and the fact the inauguration will coincide with Serbia's Statehood Day - chances are small that Nikolic will change his decision," the newspaper writes.

His adviser Stanislava Pak-Stankovic confirmed this, saying that "chances are greater that Nikolic will not be present at the inauguration of his Croatian colleague."

"When the invitation arrives, President Nikolic will once again consider whether to attend. In any case, the practice will no longer be for Serbia to always make concessions," Pak-Stankovic said, stressing that this "does not change Serbia's desire to cooperate with all regional states."

Nikolic will also take into consideration any government recommendation on this issue, if one is made, the daily reported.

It was previously announced in Zagreb, invitations would be sent to "all heads of state that have diplomatic and consular offices in Croatia," which includes Atifete Jahjaga.

Serbian representatives did not attend the inauguration of former Croatian President Ivo Josipovic because "guests from Pristina" were invited, Vecernje Novosti writes.

Josipovic later missed Nikolic's inauguration.

Grabar-Kitarovic's inauguration was originally planned for February 18, but was moved to February 15 "because U.S. President Barack Obama announced a big summit on the fight against extremism for that day, which would prevent a large number of heads of state or government to travel to Zagreb," it was said in Croatia.

Another reason is that February 15 falls on the weekend, "making it easier for guests to arrive," and also because "Easter lent begins on February 18."
