Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic and Dragan Sutanovac, who in the past held the portfolio, on Monday argued over accusations of warrantless spying.

Sutanovac, now an opposition MP, said during a debate in parliament on amendments to the Law on Defense and the Serbian Army that it was "a shame that these laws are considered as 'big scandals' rock the ministry and the ombudsman."Citzens' Ombudsman Zoran Jankovic recently came out with the spying accusations during an interview.
"The affair is artificially manufactured by you," replied Gasic, and stated that he "expects the Sutanovac to apologize to VBA officers with whom he spent five years while serving as the defense minister."
Gasic also reminded Sutanovac that during his term "a mobile device used to secretly control telephone conversations" was purchased.
"The machine was purchased during your tenure, without the VBA knowing anything about it. Who wanted to eavesdrop on citizens of Serbia? Me or you? Who bought the device, me or you?," asked Gasic.
He said that the report of the ombudsman on the wiretapping was "never received by anyone in the army and the ministry," and noted that the Defense Ministry "absolutely adheres to the Constitution and laws."
Jankovic recently accused the VBA of spying without a court decision on political parties, trade union leaders, and some judges.
He also said he planned to carry out control of the VBA in light of this information, but abandoned the idea "because of the Ministry of Defense's obstruction."
