An 8-year-old girl is dead after she was shot from a hunting rifle in her home in the Belgrade suburb of Resnik.

The RTS website said they learned on Sunday from the Interior Ministry (MUP) that the death occurred when the weapon fired "as it was being cleaned."The MUP is yet to issue an official statement. Its officers investigated the scene and tested all members of the household for gunpowder residue.
The daily Vecernje Novosti writes that the child's father and grandfather returned home from hunting on Sunday afternoon, and left the weapon "on the table in a room upstairs." They also failed to remove a cartridge from the rifle.
The newspaper quoted unofficial information to say that the children went to the room playing, when the boy "suddenly pulled the trigger" while the weapon was pointed at his sister.
