B92 Fund, Sremska Mitrovica to build safe house
The B92 Fund and the city of Sremska Mitrovica have announced the signing on Wednesday of an agreement to build a safe house in the Srem District (Okrug).

B92 Fund, Sremska Mitrovica to build safe house
The contract will be signed by Mayor of Sremska Mitrovica Branislav Nedimović and Chairman of the Board of B92 Veran Matić, according to a joint statement.The start of construction works has been enabled through a RSD 14.2 million donation by the Basic Public Prosecutor in Sremska Mitrovica.
The Safe House will have 300 square meters, located in a safe site, and will accommodate 20 women and children - the number that corresponds to current statistics on violence against women in this area.
This house will provide accommodation to victims of violence from the municipalities of Šid, Inđija, Sremska Mitrovica, Irig, Ruma, Stara Pazova and Pećinci.
This will make the Srem District the fifth in Vojvodina with such a facility.
Out of the this number, the B92 Fund has built three safe houses: in Zrenjanin, Pančevo, and Sombor, and these structures have already been successfully operational for years.
The B92 Fund is currently implementing a pilot program in the safe house in Sombor aimed at helping women victims of violence or those at risk to become economically empowered through social entrepreneurship.
As part of the project, a greenhouse will be built for production of organic vegetables whose functioning will be the responsibility of the women from the Safe House, under a special social enterprise established for this purpose.
The plan is to implement similar activities in other safe houses in Vojvodina, the statement noted.
