The professor added that from Belgrade, Russia sent a message it is "ready to reset relations with the West" - but only if the sanctions against it are lifted.

Simić said that Serbian officials clearly indicated they expect support from Russia, while Putin's visit to Belgrade "sent a strong message that Russia remains in the Balkans."

He also noted that this visit "will mark the next few years of relations between Russia and the West."

Commenting on the possibility that Fiat cars produced in Serbia could be exported to Russia, Simić said that if implemented, this would benefit Serbia.

"Fiat has a problem with placement and that's impacted the trade balance in August. If it comes to implementation, a significant contingent of Fiats could find their place in Russia, and Serbia would get a trade injection," Simić concluded.
