Minister of culture to attend gay parade

Tasovac spoke with representatives of the organizing committee Marko Ilić and Boban Stojanović on improving cooperation between the country's institutions and the LGBT community, and expressed his support for the parade, according to the Ministry of Culture and Information.

The organizers have shown an understanding of the complex situation in the society, but emphasized that respect for minority rights is a legal achievement of modern society and it is necessary to create conditions for their improvement.

Tasovac agreed with their observation and said that tolerance should be shown by personal example, adding that he would offer support to the LGBT community with his presence at the event.

The meeting also stressed that it is necessary to guarantee freedom of assembly and safety of all participants, and concluded that conditions have been met for Serbia, as a multicultural country, to acknowledge and accept all forms of diversity.

The ministry's statement further pointed out that this includes raising awareness of the existence of the LGBT community and acceptance of its members as fellow citizens with the same rights.

It was also stressed that the Ministry of Culture and Information remains open to cooperation providing equal opportunities for all, including the LGBT community, to apply for financial support for their projects within regular public competitions.
