Foreign policy screening to start in Brussels

In the first, explanatory meeting, European Commission experts will offer an analytical overview of the EU acquis in the foreign, security and defense policy areas, while the second, bilateral meeting, will discuss the way these policy areas are regulated in Serbia.

The goal of the screening process is to obtain a detailed picture of the level of alignment of the laws and regulations of candidate countries with the EU acquis prior to opening the first negotiating chapter. Following the screening, the European Commission prepares a relevant report that is forwarded to the European Council.

Serbia has so far completed the screening of 12 of a total of 35 chapters, and the process is currently underway for twenty-one chapter.
