Nikola Tesla Airport director detained

Radosavljević is suspected of concluding "a detrimental business deal with the Wizz Air company, thus causing a loss to the airport," the report said.

Radisavljević was appointed the airport's director in December 2009 as a member of the URS party, then led by former minister Mlađan Dinkić.

Belgrade-based tabloids have been reporting during the past weeks that he could be held responsible in a case investigated by the police.

It concerned losses of some EUR 5 million incurred to the Serbian budget, and in favor of Hungary's Wizz Air.

The MUP said on Wednesday that deal the airport director "negotiated autonomously" cost the company RSD 207.4 million.

They explained that a memorandum of understanding, concluded on January 29, 2010, allowed the low-cost airliner to use the airport's services at lower prices, including a 20 percent cut on passenger duty.

The MUP added that such favorable conditions could not have been granted to any company at the time, as they were only introduced on December 30, 2013, via a government decision.

But Wizz Air enjoyed the privileges starting on June 12, 2010, and Radisavljević is now suspected of allowing the company to make financial gains of RSD 207.4 million - at the same time depriving the airport of the same amount.
