Suspect throws explosive device at police officers

Three police officers have been wounded in Lipovo near the town of Kruševac when a man threw a hand grenade at them, RTS is reporting.

Another was injured as he was trying to arrest the suspect. All three have received help at the local medical center, and have in the meantime left the hospital.

RTS said it learned unofficially that the attacker was a native of the town of Prokuplje and that he has a previous police record. Four months ago he was released from prison, the media outlet is reporting.

More unofficial reports are suggesting that the police initially acted to stop the taxi as they were tipped off that the taxi driver was held at gunpoint and forced to drive from Blace to Kruševac.

The suspect has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.
