In January 2014, 1,776 citizens sought asylum in Germany, and it is encouraging that the number is in decline, Banović told the RTS.Once the German parliament confirms the government's decision in June, there will be no more motives for the departure of bogus asylum seekers to this country since, among other things, they will get less money, he said.
“The adoption of the law in the German Bundestag mid-June and putting Serbia on the list of safe third countries will eradicate any possibility of further problems which we might have with the visa-free regime abuse,” he said, stressing that putting Serbia on the list of safe third countries will be a recognition for the country's efforts.
He said that the number of EU asylum seekers in other EU countries is insignificant.
Speaking about asylum seekers in Serbia, Banović said that there are no registered cases of asylum seekers from Ukraine.
