Dačić says he "won't join government alone"

SPS leader Ivica Dačić says the topic of only his party being invited to join the government without the rest of its pre-election coalition "was not discussed."

Dačić says he "won't join government alone"

Dačić, however, did not directly answer whether some official from the Pensioners Party (PUPS) would sit in the cabinet.

"There was no discussion about personnel solutions. We have informed President Nikolić that we are ready to help and are willing to be a part of a parliamentary majority," he said.

Dačić added that the decision "about everything" would be made by the party, while "personnel solutions" would be discussed "only after Easter - despite media speculations."

He said that the SPS Presidency will meet on Thursday, while the party's main board will convene after Easter. The Socialists' coalition partners - united Serbia (JS) and the PUPS - would also convene party bodies to make their decisions, he explained.

Dačić said that, when it comes to future ministers, "it was not discussed at all" whether only he or somebody from the SPS would join, and reiterated that they "stressed during the talks that they want to help the new government."

"It is certain that it will not be only myself, or only the SPS, that will be in the government," said Dačić, commenting on the possibility that other members of the coalition gathered around the Socialists could become a part of the new government.

According to him, "it would be insulting to the citizens of Serbia who mostly voted for the SNS and its leader (Aleksandar Vučić)" if the SPS were to now "give him ultimatums."

"We do not have conversations in that language," said Dačić.

He noted that the current consultations were different compared to some held in the past, "because it is already known that there is a parliamentary majority to form a government."

The leader of the Socialists and the head of the caretaker government also said that his party "has no reason to distance itself from any possible negative and unpopular moves that the government will make":

"If we join the government, then it will be our shared responsibility."
