"Chaos" in Bosnian towns as protests flare up
The protests first began three days ago, when workers and other citizens started gathering to express dissatisfaction with the political, economic, and social situation in the country.In Sarajevo, protesters clashed with the police and stormed the government building, while several people have been injured. The police there used rubber bullets and tear gas in a bid to disperse the crowd. The building of the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina has also been set on fire, along with five vehicles parked in front of it, according to reports.
In Tuzla, those who first burst into the government building were seen jumping out as thick black smoke rose from the premises. The police have been forced to completely withdraw, the media said. Later in the day the protesters turned their anger at a local court building, pelting it with stones.
Some 3,000 people gathered there according to some estimates, many of them holding up red cards and shouting, "revolution."
Sarajevo's daily Dnevni Avaz is reporting that the Federal Police Director Dragan Lukač has sent reinforcements to Tuzla.
Protest gatherings have been taking place in other towns across Bosnia.
