BELGRADE Aleksandar Vucic says he will propose at the Sunday session of the SNS party presidency "that the will of the people should be voiced in early elections." Vucic is leader of the ruling Progressives (SNS) and first deputy prime minister in the Serbian government. SNS leader: Time has come for early elections “The time has come to deliver the account for our works,” Vucic said at the SNS extraordinary electoral assembly on Saturday in Belgrade. “We have done a lot of good work and this is one of the key reasons, and we also believe that we can do better and faster in the future,” he said. Vucic noted that he expects 'a dirty campaign to be conducted by political opponents', but he added that SNS should not respond in the same way and should instead offer good ideas and hard work, which he believes citizens will recognise and appreciate. “I believe the most important thing now is to show that we are different from all others on the political scene,” Vucic said and added that the SNS supports the idea of Serbia as a normal, decent and well-regulated country. He stated that "since the beginning of its mandate a year and a half ago years ago, the SNS has achieved the most substantial results a party achieved ever since the introduction of multi-party system in Serbia." Pre-trial proceedings in 24 controversial privatizations were concluded and outstanding results were achieved in the fight against crime and corruption, Vucic said. He underscored that this created the conditions to set up a legally regulated country and that Serbia is now a source of stability in the region. The future path has been set down together with the EU, but necessary economic and social reforms need to be carried out, Vucic said. Noting that major cuts will have to be made, he announced that SNS will also experience certain changes, including introduction of fresh personnel in the SNS presidency. He underscored that an end has to be put to the race for best seats in which some of party staff was involved. “Instead of those driving expensive cars they could not have earned themselves, SNS will have to find others who will be more committed to the well-being of Serbian citizens than to their own interests,” said Vucic.
