BELGRADE Bojan Pajtic has said that he "sees no reason" for the Democrats to forge a coalition with the SNS, "either in Vojvodina, or on the state level." Pajtic, who is one of the Democratic Party (DS) vice-presidents and serves as head of the provincial government of Vojvodina, spoke for B92 TV on Wednesday. DS official rules out alliance with Progressives He said he believes that such a coalition "would not be good for the state and society." "I do not see that a coalition with the Serb Progressive Party could be good for the state and society. The behavior of that party is to use the media to clamp down on political opponents, to selectively administer justice, to not deliver good results in employment... I see no reason to make a coalition with the SNS in Vojvodina, or on the national level," said Pajtic. Speaking about an article penned recently by another DS vice president, Miodrag Rakic, who is in favor of cooperation with the SNS, Pajtic said his colleague "spoke of the need for the two biggest parties to agree about their approach to the key issues in society." On the subject of early local elections in Belgrade, scheduled for March 16, he said that DS party leader and former mayor Dragan Djilas "masterfully won the last elections in Belgrade and is undoubtedly the best candidate for mayor." Pajtic thinks that an authoritarian manner of governing the state is being exercised in Serbia, and that "whenever someone puts into question any authority this is considered scandalous." When the interviewer noted that "debates are constant within the Democratic Party," this official said that the fact there are debates within the ruling SNS, the Serbian government, and between the president and the government was "a much bigger problem." This, Pajtic asserted, was deterring investors, and as a result last year saw "a measly" EUR 500 million of foreign investments. He added that he met with First Deputy Prime Minister and SNS leader Aleksandar Vucic recently in the town of Odzaci at the opening of a factory, and that they discussed ways to attract foreign investments. According to Pajtic, this was "not a face to face meeting," and they did not touch on the issue of elections. (B92, file) B92 Tanjug
