BELGRADE Serbia will not join NATO but it will be a reliable and responsible partner, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic said in Belgrade on Wednesday. He made the remarks during his meeting with ambassadors of NATO countries accredited in Serbia. FM tells NATO ambassadors Serbia will not join According to a release, Mrkic presented the priorities in Serbia's security policy, activities and results of cooperation with NATO through the mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace Program and Serbia's contribution to regional and global security cooperation by participation in EU and UN international peacekeeping missions. Mrkic also said that there is room for further enhancement of cooperation by means of available mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace Program. He pointed to the security aspect of the Kosovo and Metohija issue and noted that it is necessary for KFOR international forces to remain in the province in "an unreduced number" as a guarantee of safety for Serb and other non-Albanian citizens and the implementation of the Belgrade-Pristina agreement. NATO ambassadors expressed satisfaction with the level and intensity of Serbia's cooperation with NATO within the Partnership for Peace Program and qualified as positive the results achieved in this aspect in the past year. During the talks, the high officials underscored the importance of the decision of the Council of the European Union on Tuesday to launch Serbia's accession talks in January 2014 and this was qualified as historic progress in the European integration process, states the release. According to a release, Mrkić presented the priorities in Serbia's security policy, activities and results of cooperation with NATO through the mechanisms of the Partnership for Peace Program and Serbia's contribution to regional and global security cooperation by participation in EU and UN international peacekeeping missions.
