VIENNA President of the Austrian Economic Senate Erhard Busek expects the EU-Serbia accession talks to start early next year. This former Austrian vice-chancellor also "believes that Serbia belongs in the EU," Tanjug reported. "Serbia belongs in EU, but changes must take place" "However, the talks alone are not everything, and are not sufficient," Busek said. "The government, the parliament and society must implement a number of changes, not only in order to be prepared for the EU, but also with the aim of future development," he said. At the same time, Busek noted that Serbia would definitely be a positive part of the EU, "due to its strategic position and its capacities." "I see that Serbia has made an excellent contribution to the Danube Strategy," explained Busek, advisor to EU Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn on the Danube Strategy. Busek pointed out that he "deeply respects what the current Serbian government has done so far." "I think that soon there will be new elections, and I hope that they will contribute to a further strengthening of political stability," Busek said, adding that there is a wide range of possibilities for further enhancement of cooperation between Austria and Serbia, in particular in the fields of agriculture, tourism and infrastructure. Regional development must be assessed - "Vojvodina is more developed, but there are regions with greater need for investments," Busek said. "The idea of Serbian citizens leaving the country cannot be Serbia's future, and we must do everything to make sure that the people stay in the country and that they can live there," Busek concluded.
