According to the article, the leader of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) "may have colon cancer." Daily: Vojislav Seselj "may have cancer" The newspaper also said that Seselj will soon undergo surgery in the same hospital where he was previously treated for a heart condition. Seselj has been incarcerated at the Netherlands-based UN court for over ten years without a verdict being passed in the war crimes trial against him. Last year he was taken ill in the courtroom. SRS party representatives at the time asked that a team of Serbian doctors examine the defendant, to which he had given consent. Seselj was indicted in early 2003 and soon afterward turned himself in. His trial opened in 2007, while the closing arguments of the prosecution and the defense have been scheduled for March 2014. Speaking about the case on Monday, President of the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal Rasim Ljajic described it as "an unheard of scandal." He told RTS that neither Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz nor the tribunal's president had "a word of justification" for the situation, in which a defendant was being kept in custody for over 10 years without a verdict.
