BELGRADE The Anti-Corruption Agency has found that Tax Administration Director Ivan Simic receives two salaries - one from the state, and the other from the UNDP. Since the agency has determined that it is illegal for Simic to be receiving two salaries, the Ministry of Finance told the newspaper Politika that "the issue of salaries of professionals working in public administration would be resolved by introducing reforms and pay grades." Tax Administration chief "receives two salaries" The daily says that it is now "widely rumored" that Simic would be resigning from his Tax Administration position, which he took over about a year ago. He arrived from Slovenia at the invitation of then Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic, who explained that Simic should create a functioning tax administration as an independent expert, as he had successfully carried out a reform of the tax system in Slovenia. According to Politika, the Tax Administration has no information about the possible resignation of its director, saying instead that he was still doing his job. The newspaper, however, writes that problems do exist, and that they occurred when the Anti-Corruption Council two months ago found out that Simic cannot receive two salaries - the lower from the Tax Administration, and a slightly higher from the United Nations Development Program, UNDP - as this was against the law. The agency explained that they always reacted when high-ranking officials, in addition to basic functions, took on one or two other jobs that were not related to their core activities, and received pay, "because it is about the illegality of work." Member of the Anti-Corruption Council Zoran Stojiljkovic commented on the situation to say that he was "not familiar with this particular case" - but that the agency "certainly has done everything according to the law."
