New ambassadors present credentials to president

BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic received the credential letter of newly-appointed Ambassador of Cuba to Belgrade Adela Mayra Ruiz Garcia on Thursday. Nikolic said on the occasion that Serbia and Cuba share traditionally friendly ties, and expressed gratitude to Havana for its solidarity and support to Serbia, especially concerning the Kosovo and Metohija issue. New ambassadors present credentials to president He noted that Serbia is committed to European integration as its priority and at the same time it wishes to develop good relations with all the countries in the world, including Cuba. Nikolic stated that the sectors of agriculture, health-care and pharmaceutical industry offer possibilities for the improvement of bilateral cooperation. Serbia is also committed to the improvement of regional cooperation and it is firmly determined to develop the cooperation with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in all areas of mutual interest, the president said. The Cuban ambassador stated that she intends to contribute to the deepening of the existing ties between the two countries to the benefit of both countries. On behalf of the Cuban government and people, the ambassador expressed gratitude of the Serbian government to the Cuban Resolution on the need for conclusion of the economic, trade and financial embargo which the U.S. imposed on Cuba. She reiterated that Cuba maintains a firm stand on the defense of sovereignty and integrity of the two nations, and added that her country supports the continuation of the improvement of the dialogue in the UN with a view to preservation of international security and peace in the world. The Cuban ambassador also said that 2013 was marked by important events for both countries, which were organized within the celebration of the 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations which symbolize "unbreakable friendly ties and solidarity between the nations of Cuba and Serbia." "Setting the development of good neighborly relations as one of the country's strategic foreign policy priorities, Serbia stays committed to the stand that the success of any foreign policy lies in good and all-encompassing relations with neighbors, full of mutual respect," the Serbian president said. According to Nikolic, Serbia will continue to back all activities that contribute to overcoming all differences, and the commitment to even wider and more effective bilateral cooperation will always be on Serbia's list of priorities. "Our activities must be directed at strengthening the dialogue, ensuring a high-level of understanding and creating an overall climate of trust, in which all open issues will be resolved in the interest of all citizens," Nikolic said. The Serbian president noted that the need of the two countries for mutual support and even closer ties becomes even more important in joint efforts invested in the EU accession process. "We expect that the intensive political dialogue will be continued with meetings at all levels which offer a possibility for finding a way to act in concert so as to regulate all issues of mutual interest at bilateral and regional levels," Nikolic said. Ambassador Skrbic said that he would try to contribute to intensifying cooperation between the two states in all spheres. "I hope that our good neighborly relations will contribute to bringing our states closer to the EU even faster," Skrbic said. Ambassador Ranko Skrbic (Tanjug) Economic cooperation After receiving the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of Kuwait to Serbia, Yusuf Ahmad Abdul-Samad, the Serbian president said that the two countries are firmly connected through friendly and sincere relations and expressed his belief that the bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic sphere, will reach the level enjoyed before. “Over the half-century existence of diplomatic relations, the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Kuwait have built a firm friendship, and our histories have also intertwined through cooperation within the Non-Aligned Movement,” Nikolic said. Pointing out that there are no outstanding issues between Serbia and Kuwait, the Serbian president said that the two countries are an example of sincere and well-meaning relations and expressed his confidence that these relations will be promoted in the future. “With the friendly heritage as an excellent foundation, today we want the economic cooperation between our two countries, which is laden with opportunities and for which there is mutual interest, to improve further and reach the level it had in the past,” Nikolic said. He expressed his gratitude for Kuwait recognizing Serbia's needs and showing a sincere desire to help in the construction of important infrastructure facilities in the country. “We hope that the cooperation established with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will soon be expanded to include other areas, especially agriculture,” Nikolic said. The Kuwaiti ambassador brought cordial greetings from the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah IV Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who wished Nikolic “good health” and for the friendly country of Serbia and the Serbian people that they may “progress and flourish.
