BELGRADE Serbia's legislation regarding energy is already harmonized with EU's to a great extent, but it is important for the country to open up its energy market more. This is according to Deputy Director General at the European Commission Directorate General for Energy Fabrizio Barbaso, who spoke on Wednesday EU official says Serbian energy market "should open up" Competition should be improved on the energy market, so there would not be one company holding a monopoly, he told reporters during the Energy Arena conference in Belgrade. "It means the energy market in Serbia should integrate with the markets of the region and the EU," he noted. Every country in the EU is free to choose its own energy supply, but the supply situation in Serbia is unbalanced to an extent, "since it depends a lot on coal and one gas supplier," he said. "That is why the EU encourages Serbia to invest in renewable energy and infrastructure, which is very important for connecting the energy market and making alternative energy sources available," according to Barbaso (Tanjug) Tanjug
