BELGRADE The presence of top officials of Serbia in Kosovo may critically affect a larger Serb turnout in local elections 3 November, says Milovan Drecun. The SNS MP and chair of the Parliament Committee on Kosovo and Metohija on Wednesday called on Pristina to "for that reason, behave rationally." "It's important that officials go to Kosovo" "It is very important that Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, or any of the other top officials, should be in Kosovo prior to the elections, because it could be a crucial moment for those who are reluctant or unwilling to take part to, after all, participate in that process," he said. Vucic was scheduled to travel to Kosovo today, but announced on Tuesday that he was canceling the trip "because Pristina did not allow Aleksandar Vulin to go with him." Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci recently met and agreed that Serbian officials can enter Kosovo, although Pristina earlier decided not to allow this during the election campaign. Drecun called on Pristina to "stop the sabotage and allow the presence of members of the Serbian state leadership." According to him, voters should take part in the local elections in Kosovo on November 3 "in spite of irregularities in the election process and Pristina's attempt to thwart the Serbs' participation." "Pristina will try to trip us over at every step before and after the election, but our participation in these elections is necessary," said Drecun.
