BELGRADE Serbian flour exporters say they are once again facing difficulties when exporting goods to the neighboring Macedonia. "A new hindrance appeared with the introduction of flour control stamps on the Macedonian market," Tanjug is reporting. Milling industry group wants ban on Macedonian imports The Association of Millers and Bakers Zitovojvodina called on the Serbian government on Tuesday to immediately ban the import of agricultural products from Macedonia since the export of flour from Serbia is completely paralyzed. By the amendments to the Law on Quality of Agricultural Products, Macedonia has introduced the obligation to put control stamps on flour as of October 1, the association explained. "The regulations came into force but the control stamps have not been printed up to date so the flour exporters from Serbia are completely prevented from exporting flour to Macedonia," reads a letter sent to Serbian Minister of Trade Rasim Ljajic that media have seen. Zitovojvodina reminds that the Serbian Ministry of Trade sent an official letter to the Macedonian Ministry of Agriculture early in July urging Skoplje to assume proper measures to solve problems in flour export from Serbia to Macedonia and to postpone the implementation of new regulations until conditions are created for their smooth implementation. The Association said that up to date Macedonia has not delayed the implementation of the new regulations for flour import or Serbia has introduced countermeasures. On July 1, Macedonia made a decision to limit import of wheat and flour, according to which Macedonian importers had to buy three kilos of domestic wheat per one kilo of imported Serbian wheat, and for one kilo of imported flour they had to buy four kilos of domestic wheat. At the meeting of the CEFTA Committee in Belgrade on July 22, all CEFTA members pressured Macedonia to abolish the debatable decision within month and a half. (Beta, file) Tanjug
