A large-scale march took place over the weekend in Belgrade as part of a campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer.

BELGRADE A large-scale march took place over the weekend in Belgrade as part of a campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer. The campaign promotes prevention and supports women with breast cancer, and was organized by the company Avon and the B92 Fund, with the support from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia and the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade. This action, is ​​trying to raise awareness of breast cancer as a leading cause of death for women in Serbia, and highlight the importance of regular annual preventive medical examinations. All proceeds from the donations and the selling of T-shirts and other merchandise will be forwarded to the National Association of Patients Treated for Cancer (NALOR), which brings together 13 organizations from across Serbia involved in prevention, education and support for cancer survivors. At noon on Saturday at the Republic Square, now completely covered in pink T-shirts, balloons and flowers - the symbolic color of fight against breast cancer - actress Katarina Radivojevic addressed the crowd, thanking them for showing up to express their solidarity with those who struggle every day with this disease. After that, the audience was addressed by Minister of Health Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, who with her support contributed greatly to the campaign, as well to the establishing of National Day Against Breast Cancer. Vesna Kovljenovic, National Sales Director for Avon for Serbia and Montenegro, also addressed those gathered, saying that the empowerment of women, to which Avon was dedicated in the long-term, means an incentive for women to realize thier potential and utilize it in the best possible way. Among the many participants in the march were U.S. Ambassador Michael Kirby and his wife, Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic, members of sports teams, actors, singers, journalists, but the most important participants were the women who survived cancer and their families and friends. They were sending a strong message to this terrible disease can defeated.
