WASHINGTON Boris Tadic has called on the U.S., to provide strong support for the start of Serbia's accession talks with the EU, the DS said on Wednesday. Tadic, Serbia's former president, now Democratic Party's (DS) honorary president, made the statement during a meeting with U.S. president's special assistant Karen Donfried. Tadic calls on U.S. to support Serbia Serbia deserves it, after all the efforts in settling regional conflict and conducting reforms, Tadic stated. Tadic and Donfried, who is the director for European affairs at the National Security Council, discussed relations between the U.S. and the EU, internal issues of the EU and Serbia's current issues, particularly focusing on its EU integration. Tadic, Serbia's former president, said the EU will be able to complete its mission and become a world power only if it resolves the problem of its internal functioning concerning its financial policy and completed the enlargement process to include the countries of the Western Balkans. Tadic is on an official visit to the U.S. as a member of a delegation of the Party of European Socialists (PES), which is taking part in the second round of the talks on a trade agreement between the US and the EU, the statement says. The PES delegation believes the agreement has to provide the highest social standards and ensure equal work conditions. Tadic thinks the free trade agreement improve EU and European investments and that it is a critical point determining the economic and political potential of transatlantic cooperation in global relations in the next few decades.
