BELGRADE Franco Frattini has accepted the Serbian government's offer to assist Serbia in the EU integration process as a consultant. Frattini previously served as Italian foreign minister and vice-president of the European Commission. Government enlists help of another former foreign official "He will perform his duties without any remuneration and through personal contacts with Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic," the Serbian government's press office announced. The Serbian government asked Frattini, who is also former European commissioner for justice, freedom and security, to help Serbia along its path toward the EU, said the government. In a message posted on his Twitter account on Monday, Frattini said: "My individual free independent advice will go to Deputy PM Vucic on how to strengthen an EU perspective for Serbia. Reforms first!" “Thanks to his outstanding, years-long, top-level experience in European and world institutions and credibility he enjoys in the international community, Frattini will help the Serbian government in the EU integration process, primarily in relation to Chapters 23 and 24 of membership negotiations," the government said in its statement. The negotiating Chapter 23 deals with judiciary and fundamental rights, and Chapter 24 with justice, freedom and security.
