BELGRADE Milovan Drecun said on Tuesday that Belgrade "could be forced to reconsider" its call to the Kosovo Serbs to vote in the upcoming elections in the province. This is because "Pristina is refusing to accept voter applications submitted by over 30,000 internally displaced persons," the chairman of the Serbian Parliament Committee on Kosovo and Metohija said. Belgrade "could reconsider" stance on Kosovo elections Pristina’s move has called into question the fairness of the elections, Drecun told reporters in the Serbian parliament. "Our giving up on the elections would be a coerced measure, which may not have a positive impact on the lives of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, but Belgrade cannot call on the Serbs to turn out and vote just to give legitimacy to irregular elections," Drecun said. “Pristina is trying to directly influence the results of the elections, and this is unacceptable. If Washington and Brussels fail to exert additional pressure on (Hashim) Thaci, Belgrade may come to a situation where it will have to make the move,” said Drecun. Asked about why the Serbian government supports only one electoral list and if it is a discriminatory attitude, Drecun said that the government in Belgrade has decided to do so "because Hashim Thaci and Pristina are financing certain Serb lists in Kosovo." “The government supports the (Citizens’ Initiative) Srpska list because it thinks it will be a guarantor of a policy that puts Serbia’s interests in the first place,” said Drecun.
