NEW YORK President Tomislav Nikolic said after a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that he informed the UN chief about "all the problems in Kosovo." These range "from the judiciary to the local elections," the Serbian president stated. Nikolic informs Ban about problems in Kosovo The meeting was excellent, open and friendly, Nikolic told Tanjug. "He wanted to learn a lot more about what Serbia had done lately, especially in Kosovo, in relation to the talks with the provisional institutions in Pristina, as well as the negotiations with the EU," Nikolic stated. The president said he had informed Ban openly about all the problems related to the local elections in Kosovo, which Belgrade had invited the Serbs to vote in, adding that the Albanians "now wanted to portray the elections as being held in an internationally recognized country." The two also discussed the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), according to Nikolic, who added he had brought up the topic because it was time for the UN to realize that the ICTY convicts should now serve out their sentences in their own countries. Nikolic and Ban also talked about peace operations, and Nikolic promised that Serbia would send as many people as the UN needed. Nikolic asked the UN not to reduce the size of UNMIK in Kosovo. The Serbian president said he would address the UN General Assembly and meet with many presidents, prime ministers and U.S. officials during his stay in New York. "The atmosphere is a lot friendlier now than when I started my term last year. It is very easy nowadays, because people are saying 'you should be proud that you have done so much, and you will do even more,'" Nikolic concluded. (Tanjug, file) Tanjug
