Serbia condemns use of chemical weapons in Syria

Serbia has welcomed the information from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the results of a UN investigation concerning the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

BELGRADE Serbia has welcomed the information from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the results of a UN investigation concerning the use of chemical weapons in Syria. This was announced by the Foreign Ministry on Thursday in Belgrade. Serbia condemns use of chemical weapons in Syria "We support the condemnation of the use of chemical weapons. As a signatory of the Chemical Weapons Convention, we call for its complete elimination. Use of chemical weapons is a most serious breach of international law," the statement says. Syria's adoption of the convention is very important, shows responsibility and is a significant step towards peace and lower tension in the whole region, the ministry said. The ministry believes the role of the UN is crucial for unbiased investigations into chemical weapons usage and supports UN's further involvement in this issue. (mfa.gov.rs) Tanjug
