BELGRADE President Tomislav Nikolic n Tuesday receiving the letter of credence of Croatia's newly appointed ambassador to Serbia Gordan Markotic. Nikolic sai during the ceremony that he was convinced the two countries would continue to improve their regional and bilateral cooperation, and that Croatia would carry on supporting Serbia on its road to EU membership. Nikolic receives new ambassadors' credentials "Considering the great importance of the mutual economic relations for the two countries' prosperity, security in the region and future integration in the Western Balkans, I sincerely hope there will be an even stronger development of all types of bilateral economic cooperation in the coming period," as well cooperation in all other areas, Nikolic stated. He congratulated Croatia on its recent accession into the EU and added that the achievement was a guideline and an encouragement to Serbia and all the region's countries wishing to become a part of the EU. "Serbia's strategic choice is to move towards EU membership at an accelerated pace. I am convinced Croatia will continue supporting us on the European path and passing to us its great experience in the accession process, which will further improve the relations between our two countries and bring the Western Balkans closer together," Nikolic pointed out. Markotic confirmed Croatia's willingness to provide all possible support to Serbia in its accession talks with the EU, which he believes will begin soon and end in success. Zagreb wishes sincerely and strongly that all the remaining issues in the two countries' relations are settled soon, he added. "Although we still have open issues in our relations, I deeply believe we are going to settle them as good neighbours while focusing less on the past and more on our joint European future," the Croatian ambassador concluded. The president expressed the hope that Serbia's determination and willingness to continue its EU path would still be met with active support and understanding by Denmark. Nikolic said that Denmark so far showed understanding for Serbia's interests in the complex conditions of international relations, and expressed the hope that Denmark would continue contributing to the realisation of this goal through bilateral consultations and multilateral cooperation. He also expressed the belief that the newly-appointed minister would actively engage in the development of economic relations. Hansen said that Denmark would back Serbia in its EU accession talks and stated that there is still room for improvement of good and friendly ties between the two countries as a goal to which, he said, he would personally be deeply committed. Denmark and Serbia have a lot to offer to each other in commercial and cultural terms, Hansen said and added that both countries have great expertise in agriculture and are capable of progressive research and development in various fields, such as sustainable energy and information technologies. He noted that the government of Denmark maintains positive contacts with Serbia's diaspora in the country, adding that it has been integrated well in the Denmark society for a number of years now and has contributed to its further development as well Tanjug
