Parliament to discuss candidates for ministers

The Serbian parliament will start a debate on candidates for new ministers in Prime Minister Ivica Dačić's cabinet on Friday.

BELGRADE The Serbian parliament will start a debate on candidates for new ministers in Prime Minister Ivica Dacic's cabinet on Friday. All conditions for the debate were met Thursday, after the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) released the names of the remaining four candidates for ministers in the reshuffled Serbian government and after the parliament adopted the Amendments to the Law on Ministries. Parliament to discuss candidates for ministers As Dacic told Tanjug, Tomislav Jovanovic is the candidate for the new minister of education, science and technological development. He also confirmed that Director of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra Ivan Tasovac is the SPS' candidate for the minister of culture and information, President of the party's Executive Committee Branko Ruzic is nominated for the minister without portfolio in charge of European integration, while the current President of the Belgrade City Assembly Aleksandar Antic is proposed for the minister of traffic. Vanja Udovicic is nominated for the minister of youth and sports by both the Serbian Progressive Party and the SPS. The SNS earlier proposed independent experts for three ministerial positions. So, economic consultant Sasa Radulovic is the candidate for the minister of economy, Lazar Krstic, an associate at McKinsey & Co., is the candidate for the minister of finance, while Dragan Glamocic, professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, is the candidate for the agriculture minister. SNS official Igor Mirovic is a nominee for the minister of regional development and local self-government, and Nebojsa Rodic is the candidate for the new Serbian defense minister. Under the Amendments to the Law on Ministries, the Serbian government will have 18 ministries after the reshuffle, as the Ministry of Finance and Finance will be split into two. However, Dacic's cabinet will have 19 ministers, including the minister without portfolio in charge of EU integration. It is expected that Prime Minister Dacic will submit his expose to MPs, in which he will present the composition and goals of the reshuffled government. After that, Serbian whips will deliver their speeches, and the session will continue on the next day with a parliamentary debate and voting on ministerial candidates, who should take oaths on Saturday. As Dačić told Tanjug, Tomislav Jovanović is the candidate for the new minister of education, science and technological development.
