BELGRADE Serbian Customs Administration Director Ivan Simic has announced that starting January 1, 2014, taxpayers will have to submit all data in electronic form. Simic called on them to obtain digital certificates as soon as possible. "Very slow shift" to electronic business operations At a panel dedicated to representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Simic said that it will be impossible to file tax data in paper form after the New Year, but only in electronic, so citizens need to obtain necessary digital certificates. The number of certificates that have been issued up to now suggests that a great majority of taxpayers have yet to obtain them, he said, voicing concern that at the year's end, the authorities would again find themselves in a situation that they would not be able to issue such a great number of certificates for such a short period of time, but underlined that they will remain strict about the deadline - January 1. A shift to electronic business operations is taking place quite slowly in Serbia, he said, noting that in Slovenia the process progressed at a fast pace, so 1.2 million taxpayers started using this mode of tax payment for just two years.
