"Govt. ready for talks, Britain supports Serbia's EU path"

Prime Minister Ivica Dačić has said that the Serbian government is "ready for the start of accession talks with the EU."

BELGRADE Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has said that the Serbian government is "ready for the start of accession talks with the EU." Dacic made the statement during a meeting with British Ambassador to Serbia Michael Davenport. "Govt. ready for talks, Britain supports Serbia's EU path" The British diplomat was quoted as saying that his country supports Serbia's EU path and reforms. After the meeting, Dacic said Serbia's most important foreign policy goal is EU membership. "The formation of a negotiating team and the necessary capacities which will be engaging in the process is underway. Stabilizing our economy and finances, creating jobs and attracting investors is the government's primary goal," said Dacic, according to a release issued by the government's press office. He especially stressed the government's commitment to reforms, because the goal is for Serbia to emerge from the negotiating process as a successful EU member state. The prime minister also added it is in Serbia's interest to advance the political dialogue with Great Britain and to ensure cooperation in matters of regional security and the fight against international terrorism and crime. Ambassador Davenport's significant contribution to the advancement of cooperation between the two countries was highlighted in the meeting, along with a belief that Serbia will take crucial steps towards EU membership during his term as the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia.
