HAVANA Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic is in Havana, where he on Thursday met with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez. The two officials talked about opportunities to step up the cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic sphere, Tanjug reported. FM praises "strong foundation" for cooperation with Cuba In a statement for the news agency, Mrkic said that Serbia and Cuba have a long history of excellent cooperation, noting that this year marks 70 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. "Since Cuba is entering a specific phase of reforms in its own system, and we know that Serbia has already been in serious reforms for a long time, we are looking for opportunities to strengthen our ties and cooperate, especially in the economic field," Mrkic said, pointing out that Cuba wants foreign investment just like Serbia. "Cuba owes a minor debt to us, but we can settle this through joint ventures in the third countries, joint projects, and cooperation in the field of health care is of particular interest to us," Mrkic said, pointing to "famous Cuban cancer vaccines and other medicines." Mrkic added that Serbia is looking for a way to systematize the entire process of the cooperation and enhance the availability of these medicines for patients from Serbia. The Serbian foreign minister said that Serbian Health Minister Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic will visit Cuba in November. During his visit, which is his first official visit to a Latin American country, Mrkic will meet with a number of senior Cuban officials.
