VALJEVO Slovenian appliance maker Gorenje on Tuesday opened its second refrigeration appliance plant in Valjevo, western Serbia. At the opening ceremony, the ribbon was cut by Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, President of the Management Board and CEO of Gorenje Franjo Bobinac, and Valjevo Mayor Stanko Terzic. Gorenje opens another plant in western town Gorenje started building its second plant in the Serbian town last summer and launched production in February this year. EUR 21 million was invested in the new factory. Before the opening, Minister of Finance and Economy Mladjan Dinkic said this is the biggest refrigerator plant in the region, including Gorenje's plant in Slovenia. He said "Serbia should export more finished products" - such as the refrigeration units of a modern design made by Gorenje. According to Dinkic, "cooperation with Panasonic will enable Gorenje to hire more workers and export jointly to the Russian market." "We will continue to support this kind of production, because that is the only way out of the crisis," said Dinkic. Bobinac said the opening of the new plant means not only a bigger production volume and more employees, but also a bigger selection of refrigerators.
