BELGRADE Serbia and Greece have traditionally good relations, on a high level, but there are many unused opportunities for better economic cooperation. This was heard on Wednesday in Belgrade from Serbia's Prime Minister Ivica Dacic and Greek President Karolos Papoulias. Serbia, Greece could improve economic relations Opening the Greece-Serbia Business Forum, Dacic said there was a tradition of good relations with Greece, adding there was great potential for better economic cooperation. There are great possibilities for increasing trade, and Serbia is working to improve the business environment on the market and cooperation with the EU. EU integration will improve the economic cooperation with Greece, he noted, adding that it was why he appreciated suggestions from foreign companies on how to improve the business environment. Great progress has been made in the two countries' economic relations, said Dacic, adding that Serbia wanted to see the Hellenic Plan for the Balkans continued, which was postponed until 2020, and also better cooperation in tourism and joint appearances on outside markets. The meeting between Greek and Serbian companies on Wednesday and the meeting by high ranking officials of the two nations in Belgrade continue what was started by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic's visit to Greece, Dacic remarked, stressing that the economic relations were extremely important for both countries. Dacic thanked Papoulias for his contribution in improving the relations between the two nations, stressing that the Greek president had dedicated his whole life to that. Papoulias called for further improvements in economic cooperation, underscoring that the relations between Greece and Serbia added much to the stability of the Balkans. There are around 200 Greek companies in Serbia, which have invested around EUR 2.5 billion and employ around 25,000, making Greece the third biggest foreign investor in Serbia. The trade between the two countries is at EUR 319 million this year, which is not enough and there is room for growth, Papoulias stated. Karolos Papoulias addresses the forum (Tanjug) Tanjug
