Prime minister meets with UN secretary-general

NEW YORK Serbian PM Ivica Dacic stated on Thursday that Serbia is doing "all to fulfill its duties stemming from the Brussels agreement between Belgrade and Pristina." He also told reporters that he informed UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon about this during their meeting in New York. Prime minister meets with UN secretary-general Besides Ban, Dacic also conferred with Russian and British ambassadors to the UN. “I conferred with the secretary general on the manners in which the UN could help the implementation of the agreement, and I insisted on UNMIK, KFOR and EULEX as guarantors of security for Serbs,” Dacic told Tanjug. The prime minister said that the same topic was discussed at the meetings between Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic and other ambassadors of the UN Security Council member states. On Friday, Dacic will partake in a UNSC session which is to discuss the regular, quarterly report of the UN secretary-general on the situation in Kosovo and Metohija. “We will present at the (UNSC) session some of our observations and remarks referring to the situation in the field particularly the issue of security in Kosovo and Metohija,” the prime minister underlined. Dacic announced that a top-level meeting will be held with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, after which she and EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule should send a letter to the EU members with an assessment of what has been done in the implementation of the Brussels agreement. “All this will be done in order for the European Council to make a positive decision (June 28) on the start of the accession talks with Serbia,” Dacic said.
