BELGRADE The EU's only goal is an independent Kosovo, and the main purpose of Serbia's EU integration is "to serve as a tool for blackmail and pressure on Serbia." This is what spokesman for the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Petar Petkovic told a news conference in Belgrade on Monday. DSS says "independent Kosovo" is EU's "only goal" Commenting on the signals from the EU that on June 28, the bloc will not set a start date for Serbia's EU entry talks, but rather decide on whether to give the country the green light to open accession negotiations, Petkovic said that Serbia got “one big nothing” from the EU. The DSS's stance remains that Serbia should give up on its EU integration and declare political neutrality, he said. After a deafening noise that Serbia should get the date, Brussels let us know that we will not be granted the date on June 28. Ever since 2008, the EU's only goal is an independent Kosovo, and Serbia's EU integration serves solely as a reservoir of endless blackmail and pressure on Serbia, Petkovic told the news conference. The EU membership is clearly a mirage, and Serbia is in for blackmail and deceit only. Petkovic said that Serbia was humiliated when it was said that Kosovo and EU integration are separate processes, noting that the greatest humiliation of all happened when the government accepted the Brussels agreements, “which kill Serbia's statehood in Kosovo.” The government has continued the disastrous policy, and conceded to further disintegration and break-up of the state, Petkovic said.
