BRUSSELS President of the UN General Assembly Vuk Jeremic stated in Brussels on Monday that he will launch a debate in the UN in the fall dedicated to rating agencies. The debate will look into their impact on the global economic crisis, Serbia's former foreign minister announced, and said this would be done in cooperation with the European Union. UNGA president to launch debate on rating agencies "This will be a very interesting discussion at which political leaders, representatives of agencies, but also bankers, academics and public figures will hold speeches," Jeremic told Tanjug during his first official visit to Brussels as the chairman of the UNGA. There have been accusations coming from the EU and many other parts of the world that large rating agencies have contributed to the global financial crisis and undermined the euro with tactless assessment of the creditworthiness of certain countries, and Jeremic is planning to schedule a discussion on the subject in the UNGA for the first half of September. On Monday morning, Jeremic met with European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services Michel Barnier and Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans. Tanjug
