BUCHAREST Ivan Mrkic says there are no open issues between Serbia and Romania and that Bucharest unequivocally supports Serbia on its path towards the EU. "Romania's position will be unequivocal - Serbia should become an EU member and get a date for the start of membership talks in June," the Serbian foreign told Tanjug after meeting with his Romanian counterpart Titus Corlatean on Tuesday in Bucharest. "Romania strongly supports Serbia's EU path" Mrkic stressed that Romania is one of the countries that has supported Serbia by not recognizing the independence of Kosovo. Romania is one of the five EU countries that have not recognized the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Serbia's southern province of Kosovo. "We expressed our gratitude for such a position, and we particularly express our respect for Romania's firm stand that Serbia should obtain a date for the beginning of talks with the EU," Mrkic pointed out. The Serbian foreign minister also said that he and Corlatean discussed all items on the agenda concerning bilateral relations and agreed that the two countries have practically no open issues between them and that they cooperate especially in the economic field. National minorities were also one of the topics the two officials discussed. "We discussed how to improve their rights and liberties. Our government has already taken certain measures and intends to continue doing this," Mrkic said. As announced earlier, Mrkic should also confer with a group of Romanian MPs while in Bucharest.
