BELGRADE Prime ministers Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaci will not sign an agreement on normalization of relations in Brussels “because it was already done in April”. This is according to Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert, who spoke about the agreement initialed by Dacic and Thaci on April 21 in Brussels. Dacic, Thaci "already signed agreement" - EU official He expressed hope that teams for the implementation of the Brussels agreement would manage to reach an agreement because it would otherwise mean that they were negotiating on a political level. Degert praised the Serbian government for taking concrete measures aimed at implementing the agreement. “The prime ministers should not discuss details and I think that the teams in Brussels will manage to reach an agreement on the implementation of the agreement which was reached,” he said during a debate dubbed “European chances of Serbia and the Balkans”. When asked to comment on media reports that Dacic and Thaci would at the upcoming meeting in Brussels sign an agreement on the normalization of relations, Degert said: “The agreement has already been signed, its implementation is now important and the two sides now need to reach an agreement on it. There is no clear agreement between Belgrade and Pristina how to implement the agreement in the field at the moment.“ He could not confirm whether the next meeting between Dacic and Thaci would be held on May 21 but he noted that there was room to make progress before the meeting. “Intensive talks in Brussels are currently underway and I think that the two sides will manage to agree on things such as liaison officers in Belgrade and Pristina,“ the head of the EU Delegation added. He also expressed hope that Serbia would get a date for the start of the EU accession negotiations in the end of June. “I hope we will have good news for Serbia a few days before July 1,” Degert pointed out. He reiterated that the EU did not want to impose solutions and that Belgrade and Pristina should find a sustainable solution for the wellbeing of people who lived in Kosovo. “It is of utmost importance to normalize relations between Belgrade and Pristina. You have trade cooperation with Kosovo which is commendable compared to the time when there was embargo on flow of goods to Kosovo,” Degert concluded. Vincent Degert (Beta, file) Tanjug
