SARAJEVO Vukovar’s Anti-Cyrillic group no longer exists after 15 members decided to support the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ)-Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) coalition. The 15 members decided on Wednesday that the Headquarters for Defense of Croat Vukovar (also known as the Anti-Cyrillic group) would support the HDZ-HSP coalition in local elections on May 19. Croatia: Anti-Cyrillic group dissolves This was today confirmed by the group’s prominent, now ex-members Zdravko Komsic and Damir Maduna. They made the decision to leave the group after the 15 members decided with the majority of votes that the group will publicly support the HDZ-HSP coalition in the local elections. “This way, everything we have been advocating for the past four months is being denied. The previous stance on the elections was that the Headquarters will not go to the elections with an independent electoral list and will not support any political option or a list during the election campaign,” Maduna said in a release. He claims that some members of the Headquarters for Defense of Croat Vukovar have been planning this since the very beginning and that they have sold the group out. Komsic claims that more people and some associations will leave the Headquarters for Defense of Croat Vukovar in the next several days. “People do not want the Headquarters to have any political orientation. Besides, at the beginning we passed the Declaration that the Headquarters was apolitical and that it will not be involved in politics. Our only goal was to prevent the Cyrillics from being introduced in Vukovar. We did not advocate what they voted for,” he stressed. The Headquarters for Defense of Croat Vukovar was founded after the Croatian government had announced that it would introduce the Cyrillic alphabet in Vukovar and Zagreb. Maduna strongly criticized the Headquarters members who supported the HDZ coalition in Vukovar. “Those members sold out the Headquarters, they sold out a thousand of Croat defenders who believed in a possibility of unification, they sold their honor and their pride” he stressed.
