BELGRADE Heads of districts south from the Ibar River have accepted the agreement with Pristina while those from the north are still rejecting it, Aleksandar Vucic says. The first deputy prime minister told weekly Novi magazin that progress had been made but that a consensus with Kosovo Serbs had not been reached and that the talks would continue during his visit to Kosovo on Sunday. “Southern Kosovo accepts, northern rejects agreement” “We will spend most of the time in northern Kosovo and Metohija. I expect councilors of all four northern municipalities – Kosovska Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zvecan and Zubin Potok to attend. Despite the fact that some have already lost credibility, I am not afraid of talking to them, of presenting them arguments of the entire Serbia,” Vucic pointed out. “Serbia accepted arguments of the northern Kosovo Serbs and offered a referendum with a questions ‘Are you in favor of the agreement or not?’ in which they would have an advantage,” he noted. “We accepted the agreement because we know that people in Serbia would choose the future. And if it is that way, we want to talk to Kosovo Serbs, to explain to them what they will get, what difficult things are. We will not hide anything, we will not lie to anyone,” the deputy prime minister pointed out. “For the first time, northern Kosovo and enclaves south of the Ibar River will have serious foreign investments, at least two big projects and the state of Serbia will encourage significant number of family firms that will be formed, i.e. small- and medium-sized businesses,” he said. “At the same time, there will be no Albanian troops in the north and this is what they fear the most,” he said and added that there would always be 98 percent of Serb and two percent of Albanian police officers in the north. “NATO is a guarantor that there will be no other armed forces in the north, we got that in writing from (NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh) Rasmussen,” Vucic said. He will visit Kosovo on May 12 and meet with representatives of Serbs and citizens. The main topic of the talks will be the agreement initialed by Belgrade and Pristina on April 19 in Brussels. “I am going to Kosovo because I am sure that those people will in the end think about their fate,” Vucic told Novi magazin.
