BELGRADE Belgium's Deputy PM Didier Reynders says his country wants Serbia to get a start date for the EU accession talks as soon as possible. Belgium and the EU "had to be sure that Belgrade could solve its problems with Pristina," Reynders said during his meeting in Belgrade on Tuesday with Serbia's First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic. "Serbia wants dialogue, but won't cancel itself" Vucic told Reynders Serbia was prepared to fulfil the requirements in the conclusions by the European Council and continue the dialogue with Pristina in order to find a long-term and applicable solution, but that it would "never accept its own termination." The relations between the two countries are good, but there is room for improvement through agreements and better cooperation between the parliaments, Vucic's office also quoted him as saying in a statement. "We have to focus on modernizing the country and building a future, as well as on creating a good environment for foreign investments. It is important to improve economic cooperation and increase the presence of Belgian companies on the Serbian market," Vucic said. Earlier in the day, Didier Reynders meet with Suzana Grubjesic, Serbia's deputy prime minister in charge of European integration, and the two officials agreed that the dialogue with Pristina needs to continue. Reynolds said his country supports the resumption of talks and Serbia's EU path. Grubjesic informed him about the Serbian government's unanimous position that the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should resume urgently in order to reach a solution which is implementable, sustainable in the long term, and which guarantees the human rights, security and survival of the Serbs living in Kosovo. She stressed that in the dialogue, Serbia showed it is prepared to compromise and determined to reach a comprehensive agreement, Grubjesic's office said in a release. "Serbia and its citizens deserve a chance to be transformed into a modern and well-organized state through the accession talks process, to establish the rule of law, strengthen our economy and improve our tragic social situation and living standard," said Grubjesic.
